I’m getting ready for my trip out to the Imaginarium Convention in Louisville, KY. I’m really looking forward to some great workshops, to networking with fellow authors, creatives, and publishers, and having fun with my tribe of people.
Unlike most conferences, this convention isn’t a fan convention so much as it is a creatives learning experience. There are so many authors with subject matter expertise and this is a phenomenal way to showcase that.
My favorite workshop last year was with the in-house weapons expert.
I was trying to get a writing acquaintance of mine to present this year because he has such a massive subject matter expertise in terraforming other planets. How cool would that have been? Alas, it was not to be this year owing to medical issues with his family.
As for myself, I’ll be hosting a workshop followed by a live demo on how to make a book trailer. No, we aren’t creating Lord of the Rings, so lower your expectations, but we are creating something achievable, something one could pitch on social media.
Along with selling books for Quanta Publishing (though I don’t expect many sales what with this being a creatives conference instead of a fan conference), I’m also doing the Marathonium this year as well as working the Lemur Throne table for any creatives in need of help/support with anything.
Besides myself and the rest of Lemur Throne (Clayton Barnett, Joseph Isenberg, world builder Grathew, and S. D. Croft) , I’ll be joined by voice artist Rich Frazier - he did the audio for A Kingdom of Ash and Steam - along with his daughter, forensic psychologist podcaster, Tracie. Tracie’s podcast deals with forensically breaking down the mindset behind entertainment villains, so I encourage convention attendees to pick her brain about their WIP villains if you need some insight into making them terrifyingly convincing.
Looking forward to Imaginarium!
I think you ought to do a podcast of the Lemur Throne people, the five of us, having a chat about what we've done at the conference so far.
